Russia Dismisses Trump’s Ultimatum Over Ukraine Ceasefire

(MENAFN) The Kremlin on Tuesday dismissed U.S. President Donald Trump's 50-day ultimatum to reach a ceasefire in Ukraine, rejecting his warning of “severe tariffs” as completely unacceptable.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov reaffirmed Moscow's commitment to resolving the conflict through diplomacy but warned that military operations would continue if negotiations fail.

"However, if this is not met with a proper response, if we cannot reach our set goals through diplomacy, then the special military operation will go on," he stated.

Reiterating Russia’s firm stance, Ryabkov added, "We expect Washington and NATO to take this seriously."

Trump, on the same day, refuted prior claims that he had urged Kyiv to carry out strikes deep within Russian territory. The president emphasized neutrality, saying Ukraine “shouldn't target Moscow” using long-range weaponry.

Just a day earlier, speaking from the Oval Office, Trump announced that U.S. weapons shipments to Ukraine would be facilitated via NATO. He warned that Russia would face “severe tariffs” if it failed to agree to a ceasefire within 50 days.

He also indicated that Patriot missile systems could be delivered to Ukraine "within days."

The Russian Foreign Ministry denounced the weapons shipments, calling them proof that NATO member states are not genuinely pursuing peace.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick later clarified Trump’s mention of “100 percent secondary tariffs,” explaining that the phrase referred to “economic sanctions.”

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s parliament voted Tuesday to prolong the country’s wartime state and military mobilization for another 90 days, extending it through November 5. Lawmakers also approved a provisional withdrawal from the Ottawa Convention, the international treaty banning anti-personnel landmines.
