Australia requests independent probe into Gaza paramedic killings
A representative for the Australian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Sunday, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. "The deaths of humanitarian workers in Gaza are unacceptable," the representative stated. "It is appropriate that there is a thorough and independent investigation. Those responsible must be held accountable."
Australia's request follows a news agency published a video on Saturday that casts doubt on the Israeli military's account concerning the killing of 15 Palestinian paramedics in southern Gaza on March 23rd. The video, reportedly retrieved from the cellphone of a paramedic later found in a mass grave, seemingly exposes inconsistencies in the army's narrative.
Initially, the Israeli army claimed that the vehicles carrying the paramedics were approaching their forces "suspiciously" and "without headlights, or emergency signals, (and) their movement was not coordinated in advance." Furthermore, the army alleged that nine of those killed were members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad.
