China Strongly Opposes Trump's New Tariff Threat

(MENAFN) On Tuesday, China firmly rejected US Leader Donald Trump's new threat to impose an additional 50 percent tariff on Chinese ship-ins.

A Chinese news agency reported that Beijing expressed its determination to “fight till the end” against such actions.

The Ministry of Commerce stated that China “strongly opposes” any attempts by the United States to raise tariffs further and pledged to take retaliatory actions to protect its rights.

The ministry emphasized that if the US continues on what it views as a harmful path, China will not back down.

It further criticized the US's tariff threats, describing them as a mistake that only highlights the nature of “blackmail,” a tactic China refuses to accept.

China denounced the US's so-called “reciprocal tariffs” as unjustified and accused Washington of engaging in typical unilateral bullying.

The ministry asserted that China's counteractions were legitimate measures to protect its sovereignty, security, and economic development, as well as to uphold international trade norms.

Leader Trump had threatened on Monday to add a 50 percent tariff on Chinese goods, on top of the 34 percent “reciprocal” tariffs he announced the previous week.

This threat came after Beijing imposed the same 34 percent duties on US imports in retaliation. In addition to these tariffs, Trump had already enforced a 20 percent levy on Chinese products.

His administration has implemented a broad range of tariffs, ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent, targeting several countries, causing turbulence in global markets.
