French army aircrafts crash midair

(MENAFN) Two aircraft from France’s renowned Patrouille de France aerobatic team collided midair during a training exercise, crashing in a fiery explosion near Saint-Dizier Air Base in eastern France on Tuesday.

According to the French Air and Space Force, all three crew members—two pilots and one passenger—managed to eject safely and were found conscious after parachuting to the ground.

Video footage captured the dramatic moment when the Alpha Jets, engaged in a stunt and trailing smoke, collided in midair. The aircraft spiraled out of control before crashing—one into a grain silo, causing an explosion, and the other into agricultural land, according to Saint-Dizier Mayor Quentin Briere. Fortunately, there were no civilian casualties reported.

French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu confirmed the incident on social media, stating that emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene. Two crew members were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, while a third, who suffered multiple injuries, is receiving military medical treatment.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collision. The Alpha Jet, jointly developed by France’s Dassault Aviation and Germany’s Dornier in the 1970s, is primarily used for pilot training and aerobatic performances.
