US House Speaker Delays Vote on Republican Budget Blueprint
Facing resistance from conservative lawmakers, Johnson informed the press that the vote would likely occur on Thursday instead.
Johnson emphasized that the delay was part of the process and expressed confidence in the outcome. “This is part of the process. This is a very constructive process. I’m very optimistic about the outcome of this one big, beautiful bill, and this is just one of the steps in getting there,” he stated.
The vote was originally set for Wednesday evening, with the House expected to review the Senate-approved budget measure. This plan is meant to support Trump’s primary domestic objectives, but it has sparked criticism from some Republicans who prefer a stricter version of the budget proposed in the House.
Several lawmakers have voiced concerns that the Senate plan, which proposes a modest USD4 billion reduction in federal spending, does not do enough to address the nation’s spending issues.
Some argue that the plan falls short in making significant cuts to federal expenses.
Republican Congressman Chip Roy voiced his opposition to the Senate's budget proposal, stating that he could not support it. “It will make the Inflation Tax on American families worse & undermine the Trump agenda. It ‘instructs’ the Senate to INCREASE deficits by failing to limit spending (only USD4BB) while simultaneously reducing tax revenues (even adjusting for growth),” Roy posted on X.
