ICJ hearings on Israel's Palestinian obligations attract 40 States

(MENAFN) The International Court of Justice (ICJ) announced on Wednesday that representatives from 40 states and four international organizations intend to participate in upcoming public hearings concerning Israel's obligations in the occupied Palestinian territory.

According to a statement from the court, the public hearings will be held "on the request for an advisory opinion on the Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, Other International Organizations and Third States in and in relation to the Occupied Palestinian Territory." The court has announced that public hearings will take place from April 28 to May 2.

The ICJ stated that, "Forty States and four international organizations have expressed their intention to participate in the oral proceedings before the Court." This diverse group of participants submitted their contributions within the deadline set by the ICJ president’s order on December 23, 2024, with the exception of the African Union, which was granted an extension.

The list of contributors includes countries from various continents, such as Chile, Malaysia, Russia, Türkiye, Pakistan, Qatar, Spain, South Africa, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, China, the Netherlands, Brazil, Egypt, Israel, France, the US, and Palestine.

Prominent international organizations including the UN, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Arab League have also presented their perspectives on the matter, the statement added.
