White House confesses ignoring journalists who used gender pronouns
Leavitt stated that reporters who display pronouns in their bios are viewed as disregarding "biological reality" and thus cannot be trusted to report truthfully. “We don’t respond to those who choose ideology over facts,” she told The Washington Post. However, she declined to specify when the policy was officially enacted or whether it applies to all branches of government communication beyond the White House press office.
The approach appears to be part of a wider government stance. Katie Miller, an adviser at the Department of Government Efficiency, echoed the sentiment when speaking to a New York Times journalist, stating she ignores all press inquiries from reporters who include pronouns in their signatures, claiming it shows a disregard for scientific fact.
“This is standard across the board,” Miller added, emphasizing that the policy applies to all members of the media using pronouns in official communication.
Since retaking office in January, Trump has moved swiftly to dismantle gender-related and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Federal employees across various agencies have reportedly been told to remove pronouns from their email signatures. Executive orders issued by the administration have banned what Trump calls “radical gender ideology” in the military, barred transgender women from participating in women’s sports, and enforced a federal recognition of only two biological sexes.
These policies have sparked backlash from civil rights organizations and LGBTQ+ advocacy groups, which have labeled the administration’s actions as discriminatory and have mounted legal challenges in response.
