Israel Expands Military Buffer Zones Amid Continued Gaza Attacks

(MENAFN) Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a warning on Sunday, stating that Gaza would face increased restriction and further seclusion as Israel’s military campaign continues in the coastal territory.

In a statement on X, Katz declared, “Gaza will become smaller and more isolated, and more and more of its residents will be forced to evacuate from the fighting zones.”

During the Jewish Passover, Katz revealed that Israeli forces had seized control of the Morag axis—a 12-kilometer (7.45-mile) passage that runs horizontally across Gaza, dividing Khan Younis from Rafah.

He explained that the segment between the Philadelphi Corridor and Morag has now been integrated into what he called “part of the Israeli security zone.”

Additionally, Katz noted that Israel had extended its buffer area in northern Gaza.

This expansion has led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, with portions of the region now designated as Israeli-controlled security zones.

Katz emphasized that these developments form a part of a broader Israeli strategy to exert pressure on Hamas to agree to a deal involving the release of hostages.

He stressed that military operations would persist as long as Hamas continues to reject Israeli demands, saying the army would go on “while continuing to thwart its operatives and destroy its infrastructure.”

In the past several days, the Israeli military has issued compulsory evacuation directives for regions including Beit Lahia, Beit Hanoun, and Jabalia in the north, as well as the entire city of Rafah and areas of Khan Younis.

On Saturday, Israeli forces announced they had completed the full encirclement of Rafah and finalized control of the Morag axis, effectively separating it from Khan Younis.
