Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa secures re-election for a four-year term

(MENAFN) Daniel Noboa, the current president of Ecuador, has successfully been re-elected for a four-year term following the second round of the presidential election held on Sunday, as per preliminary results from the National Electoral Council (CNE).

At 37 years old, Noboa received 55.92% of the votes with 92.64 percent of ballots counted, while his rival, leftist candidate Luisa Gonzalez, garnered 44.08%.

Diana Atamaint, president of the CNE, congratulated Noboa on his win, stating that the results indicate "an irreversible trend" and "are the faithful reflection of the popular will expressed at the polls."

The elections were conducted in a climate of peace, security, and trust, with voter turnout reaching 83.76% of the over 13.7 million eligible voters, she noted.

Upon receiving the election results, Noboa expressed gratitude to his supporters in a statement from his home in Santa Elena province. "This victory has been historic, a victory of more than 10 points, where there is no doubt about who the winner is," he remarked.

"Ecuador is changing, Ecuador has already chosen a different path and that path is going to be for future generations to have a fairer life (...) and with progress," Noboa added.

In contrast, Gonzalez, speaking in northern Quito, declared that she does not accept Noboa's electoral victory.

"We do not recognize the results presented by the CNE. We are going to ask for a recount and for the polls to be opened," she stated.
