House blast in northwest Austin injures six, damages over 24 homes

(MENAFN) A devastating explosion in northwest Austin on Sunday resulted in injuries to six individuals, with two in critical condition, and inflicted extensive damage on at least 24 homes, according to officials. The blast obliterated a two-story house, reducing it to rubble, as reported by Wayne Parrish, division chief of the Austin Fire Department. A nearby residence also experienced "severe collapse damage."

Firefighters arriving at the scene encountered widespread devastation. Captain Shannon Koesterer of Austin-Travis County EMS confirmed that two of the injured are in critical condition, while two firefighters received treatment for minor injuries incurred during the emergency response.

Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the explosion, with an investigation actively taking place. While the area does not have underground gas lines, local sources suggest that the newly built home that was destroyed housed propane tanks on the property.
