US possibly to block DeepSeek
The US government, under President Donald Trump, is considering penalties to block DeepSeek from acquiring American technologies and possibly banning US users from accessing the AI. The move comes after Nvidia announced that the US had blocked some of its AI chip sales to China and would require licenses for future sales.
US congressional leaders have launched an investigation into Nvidia’s chip sales to China, particularly to determine whether the company supplied DeepSeek with critical technology in violation of US regulations under former President Joe Biden's administration.
In response, Nvidia has stated it adheres strictly to US government guidelines regarding product sales and is committed to safeguarding US national security.
Following DeepSeek's launch, several countries, including the US, South Korea, Italy, and Australia, have imposed restrictions on the AI, citing concerns over national security and data privacy. In February, US lawmakers proposed legislation to ban the app from government devices, claiming it could transmit sensitive data to China. China has denied these allegations, calling them politically motivated.
