Israel Revokes Visas for French Lawmakers
This action was taken shortly after French Leader Emmanuel Macron suggested that such recognition might occur during a global summit scheduled for June.
Israeli Premier Benjamin Netanyahu strongly opposed the idea, describing it as a “huge reward for terrorism.”
The group comprised 27 political figures, including representatives from France’s Ecologist and Communist parties, as well as municipal leaders and city mayors.
Notable individuals in the delegation were National Assembly members Francois Ruffin, Alexis Corbiere, and Julie Ozenne from the Ecologist party; Communist deputy Soumya Bourouaha; and Senator Marianne Margate from the Communist party.
Based on the delegation, they had been invited by the French consulate in Jerusalem for a five-day visit to Israel and the Palestinian regions.
The journey was portrayed as an effort to “strengthen international cooperation and the culture of peace.”
In a joint declaration released on Sunday, the lawmakers stated, “For the first time, two days before our departure, the Israeli authorities canceled our entry visas that had been approved one month ago.”
They criticized the move, labeling it as “collective punishment.”
