Wildfire Ravages Poland's Biebrza National Park

(MENAFN) A significant wildfire has devastated around 400 hectares of Biebrza National Park in northeastern Poland, as reported by local authorities on Monday morning.

The blaze, which ignited Sunday afternoon near the border between Augustow and Monki counties in Podlaskie province, has rapidly expanded despite ongoing firefighting efforts.

Justyna Klusewicz, spokesperson for the Podlaskie Provincial Command of the State Fire Service, reported that around 180 firefighters, along with forest service personnel, park rangers, and military troops, are actively working to control the flames.

Drones were deployed overnight to assess the fire's spread, and on Monday, additional firefighting aircraft, including helicopters, were brought in to battle the fire in difficult-to-access areas.

The Government Center for Security has issued emergency warnings for residents of the Augustow, Grajewo, and Monki regions, urging them to avoid the affected zones and adhere to instructions from emergency services.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but no injuries have been reported. Biebrza National Park, famous for its expansive wetlands and rich biodiversity, is one of Poland’s most ecologically valuable protected areas.
