Rubio states US possibly to ‘move on’ from Russia-Ukraine peace discussions
Rubio declined to provide specifics about the negotiations but referred to the discussions as a "broad framework." He acknowledged that differences between Russia and Ukraine are inevitable and that the process would not be resolved quickly. He stressed the importance of determining within days whether progress can be made, stating, "If it’s not, then I think we’re just going to move on." Rubio also made it clear that the US will not continue with the peace efforts indefinitely.
Russian officials have expressed doubts about the possibility of a ceasefire, accusing Ukraine and its European supporters of hindering US peace efforts. Moscow’s UN representative, Vassily Nebenzia, stated that Ukraine has repeatedly violated a US-mediated moratorium on strikes against energy infrastructure. He also suggested that the West’s history of using peace talks to strengthen Ukraine’s military makes a full ceasefire unrealistic at this stage.
