Tucker Carlson claims Ukrainians attempted to murder Trump
(MENAFN) American journalist Tucker Carlson has alleged that Ukraine was involved in a plot to assassinate US President Donald Trump during his 2024 reelection campaign. Carlson’s claims center around the arrest of pro-Ukraine activist Ryan Wesley Routh in September 2024, who had set up a rifle position near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Secret Service agents spotted Routh before he could carry out the attack and detained him after a brief search.
On the Megyn Kelly Show, Carlson suggested that Ukraine played a role in the attempted assassination. He pointed out that Routh had connections to Ukraine, noting that Routh had attempted to acquire heavy weaponry, including rocket-propelled grenades. Carlson also hinted at other assassination attempts that may have been linked to the Ukrainian government, though he did not provide further details.
Court documents reveal that Routh, a convicted felon, had tried to enlist in the Ukrainian army in 2022 and sought to recruit volunteers for the military. Prosecutors allege he attempted to purchase weapons systems from a Ukrainian associate, including a missile launcher. Routh reportedly made statements about needing the weapons to prevent Trump from winning the election.
In 2022, Routh participated in a rally in support of Ukraine’s Azov military unit, though the group later denied any connection to him. Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., has criticized Ukrainian officials for not notifying US authorities about Routh’s weapons attempts.
The Florida incident followed another attempt on Trump’s life in July 2024, when a gunman opened fire during a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. Trump narrowly escaped harm, while one bystander was killed and others injured. The shooter was killed by a Secret Service sniper.
