Afghan Police Rescue Kidnapped Man, Arrest Four Suspects
The victim was reportedly seized from Kabul on Saturday, with the alleged kidnappers demanding a ransom of $300,000 for his release. The ministry's statement detailed that police were able to locate the abducted man in the Jabal Saraj district and freed him from the kidnappers' control on Wednesday.
The arrested individuals have been turned over to the judicial system for further inquiry, the statement noted, without disclosing additional details regarding the operation or the identities of those involved.
Despite tightened security measures in many parts of Afghanistan, the statement acknowledged the continued presence of criminal elements in certain areas. These groups, it said, sometimes attempt to kidnap individuals from affluent families as a means of extortion in the country, which has been devastated by war and struggles with widespread poverty.
