Iraq Premier Hails Turkey-Iraq Development Road as Key Mideast Project

(MENAFN) Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani underscored the significant role of the joint Turkey-Iraq Development Road Project, labeling it "one of the most important initiatives in the Middle East” with the capacity to transform regional connections and economic collaboration.

During his address at the "FOCUS: Türkiye-Iraq Relations" event organized by Anadolu in Ankara, the capital of Turkey, Sudani stated that his administration aims for the relationship between Iraq and Turkey to act as a cornerstone for stability in the region.

"We want Türkiye-Iraq ties to be part of the regional stability equation," he asserted, pointing out the wider geopolitical importance of the partnership between the two neighboring nations.

In his remarks, Sudani also voiced strong criticism against Israel's prime minister, cautioning about escalating tensions across the region. "The Netanyahu government is trying to drag the region into the flames of war," he declared.

At the event held at Anadolu's main offices, Sudani provided a thorough evaluation of the relationship between Turkey and Iraq, covering their bilateral, regional, and global aspects.

The Development Road initiative is a substantial trade corridor that will connect Iraq and Turkey via an integrated network of railways, roads, ports, and urban centers.

Extending over 1,200 kilometers (745 miles), the planned railway and highway will link the Great Faw Port, which has aspirations to become the largest port in the Middle East.
