AI-generated video recreates historic WWII broadcast

(MENAFN) RT has unveiled an AI-generated video recreating the historic WWII broadcast by famed Soviet radio announcer Yury Levitan, who first delivered the news of Nazi Germany’s surrender. The release coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II.

The video features Levitan’s authentic announcement, originally aired at 2:10 a.m. Moscow time on May 9, 1945. In it, he declares: “Attention. This is Moscow speaking. On May 8, 1945, in Berlin, representatives of the German High Command sign the act of unconditional surrender of the German Armed Forces. Germany is utterly defeated.”

Russian tech firm Cognitive Pilot used its proprietary generative AI model, Ippolit, to digitally resurrect Levitan’s image and voice. By combining facial animation with advanced voice synthesis, the team faithfully reproduced his appearance and distinct speech pattern. An English-language version was also created using AI while retaining Levitan’s vocal tone.

Levitan’s wartime broadcasts, played through public loudspeakers, became a symbol of Soviet resilience and hope. His voice is remembered as one of the most powerful and recognizable of the era.
