Three wounded in misogynistic school knife stabbing spree

(MENAFN) A knife attack at a school in Pirkkala, southern Finland, left three female students injured on Tuesday. The attacker, a 16-year-old male student, was apprehended shortly after the incident and is currently in custody.

The assault occurred in the hallway of Vähäjärvi School, which serves around 1,200 students from preschool to ninth grade and is located approximately 180 kilometers (110 miles) north of Helsinki. According to police, the suspect, dressed in black and wearing a body camera, randomly targeted girls and livestreamed the attack. Clips of the footage have since spread on social media.

Authorities confirmed the suspect was arrested outside the school without resistance. A knife was recovered at the scene. Police said that none of the injuries were life-threatening. One girl suffered a neck wound, another was stabbed in the waist, and the third sustained injuries to her hand.

Investigators are examining a manifesto allegedly written by the suspect prior to the attack. While officials have not disclosed its contents, Finnish media reported it included misogynistic statements and expressed the suspect’s desire for notoriety. He also allegedly admitted to having no friends and outlined plans to turn himself in after the attack.

Reports suggest the teenager had been planning the assault for about six months and may have used ChatGPT during the preparation process, although the purpose of that use remains unclear.

Finnish Education Minister Anders Adlercreutz condemned the violence on social media, stating that "all violence in schools is unequivocally condemnable."
