New York, London, Paris Secure Top Spots in Global Cities Index

(MENAFN) New York, London, and Paris secured the top three spots in the latest Global Cities Index released by Oxford Economics, which evaluated 1,000 urban centers across various metrics.

The index measures the performance of the 1,000 largest cities globally, spanning 163 nations, by using 27 metrics grouped into five core categories: economy, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance.

Collectively, these urban hubs generate 60% of the world’s gross domestic product and are home to about one-third of the global population.

New York claimed the number one position with a metropolitan economy valued at $2.5 trillion and a population of 20.7 million. Scoring a perfect 100 overall, it was trailed by London, which has an economy totaling $1 trillion. This marks the second consecutive year the two cities have led the rankings.

New York boasts the largest urban economy globally, while London placed fourth in that regard. Both cities also feature prominently in terms of the number of universities and major corporate offices.

Paris landed in third place, followed by San Jose in California and Seattle in Washington State.

All three of these cities earned strong marks in the economic category, though they rated slightly lower than New York and London in human capital.

On the other hand, Paris, San Jose, and Seattle surpassed both New York and London when it came to quality of life.

Paris was particularly notable for its famed cultural heritage and impressive life expectancy. San Jose and Seattle distinguished themselves with some of the highest income levels found globally.
