Africa Prepares to Join Meeting in Russia
In total, forty-five delegations representing more than forty African states, along with several regional bodies—including the African Union and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD)—have verified their attendance.
The 13th edition of the International Meeting of High Representatives for Security Issues is scheduled to be held in Moscow from May 27 to 29.
The event will be hosted at the ‘Russia’ National Center and overseen by Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu.
During a designated session on the fringes of the summit, officials will explore strategies to strengthen bilateral and multilateral partnerships, particularly building on resolutions adopted at previous Russia-Africa summits.
The Russian Security Council’s press office stated, “Significant geopolitical changes have directly affected the interests of countries in the Global South and East.
The voice of African nations is becoming increasingly prominent as they seek to conduct foreign policy in the interests of their people and defend their right to choose their own path of development.”
The statement also emphasized that Moscow consistently backs its African counterparts in safeguarding their independence and strategic priorities.
