Organization member states Afrikaners not accountable for misleading Trump

(MENAFN)
The Afrikaner Leadership Network has denied any responsibility for misleading US President Donald Trump about the situation in South Africa. The statement comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in the United States for high-level talks aimed at improving strained relations and securing a favorable trade deal, particularly regarding the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA). Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen, along with other key officials, is part of the South African delegation.

In an interview with Newzroom Afrika, Theuns Eloff from the Afrikaner Leadership Network asserted that it was unfair to blame Afrikaners for misinforming Trump. He argued that the narrative of misinformation is exaggerated, and believes that Trump is well-informed about South Africa's issues. Eloff clarified that the Afrikaner Leadership Network never promoted claims of "white genocide" or large-scale expropriation of Afrikaner farms, contrary to some reports. He suggested that Trump may have received his information from other sources, not from Afrikaner organizations.

Eloff also emphasized that the US administration, including the CIA and embassy staff, could easily access accurate information from South African media and social media. He expressed confidence that the US government is fully aware of the situation and that the real issue lies in how the information is emphasized.

Last week, Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni revealed that organizations like AfriForum and the Solidarity Movement are under investigation for allegedly spreading false claims about the persecution of white South Africans. Ntshavheni highlighted that such actions are being treated seriously by law enforcement, who are investigating the potential treasonous nature of the misinformation.

These developments come amid discussions on reforms within South Africa’s intelligence services, with the government working to ensure that agencies remain independent from political influence.
