Media reports India refusing US allegations over Pakistan ceasefire

(MENAFN) India's Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, informed a parliamentary committee on Monday that the United States was neither involved nor informed about the ceasefire between India and Pakistan. This statement came in response to questions regarding US President Donald Trump’s announcement of the cessation of hostilities between the two countries before India and Pakistan made any official announcement.

Misri rejected the notion of US mediation, stating that while conversations with US officials had taken place during the recent military standoff, they were part of routine communication and not an indication of American intervention in brokering the ceasefire. The hostilities had escalated after India launched strikes on suspected terrorist facilities in Pakistan-controlled territory on May 7, in retaliation for a terror attack in Kashmir in April.

Before India and Pakistan officially announced the ceasefire, Trump claimed on May 10 that the US had mediated a truce between the two nations. He reiterated this in a press briefing last week, stating that his administration played a key role in facilitating the ceasefire and expressing confidence that it would hold.

In an exclusive interview with RT, India's Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, attributed the ceasefire to India’s zero tolerance for terrorism and its firm response to Pakistan’s escalation attempts. He emphasized that India had countered every provocation from Pakistan.

Indian Foreign Ministry officials further clarified that India had addressed Trump’s statements through appropriate diplomatic channels. Misri also reiterated India’s longstanding position against third-party mediation in its bilateral issues with Pakistan during his remarks to the parliamentary panel.
