Fenerbahce Beko Clinches EuroLeague Title, Coach Praises Team’s Win
(MENAFN) Fenerbahce Beko head coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and forward Nigel Hayes-Davis, who earned the 2025 EuroLeague Final Four MVP honor, spoke to the media following the team’s 81-70 victory over Monaco in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague final on Sunday. The win crowned Fenerbahce as the new champions of Europe’s top basketball competition.
Reflecting on the achievement, Hayes-Davis admitted he wasn’t certain how he would emotionally process the triumph.
"I believed all year, especially last month, we had what it took to win. When you do it over and over, you get numb to it. So I've seen it so many times in my mind…It’s good to see my teammates happy, staff happy, everyone happy. I'm relishing the moment of the entire family being happy."
When asked about the song lyrics “10% luck, 20% skill” that played as he was announced MVP, the American forward offered a candid response. Stating, "I disagree with the percentages. In games like this, it's 90% effort…The first thing that was mentioned (before the game) was if we don't match or exceed Monaco's physicality and effort, we won't have a chance…I feel we have the bigger team. We were able to bring guys off the bench and to play 1, 2, 5 minutes and give us something. At the end of 40 minutes, the winner is the champion."
As the press conference concluded, Hayes-Davis playfully drenched Jasikevicius with his water bottle in response to a cheeky remark from the coach."You were okay," Jasikevicius joked as the MVP exited the room.
"That's the problem with the new generation. They don't know how to celebrate," the Lithuanian coach quipped, poking fun at the lighthearted moment.
