Trump Sparks Controversy, Asks for Harvard’s Foreign Student Data
This call comes shortly after a federal judge halted the Trump administration’s attempt to strip Harvard of its authorization to enroll foreign students.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "We want to know who those foreign students are, a reasonable request since we give Harvard BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, but Harvard isn't exactly forthcoming," adding, "We want those names and countries."
Trump wrote on Sunday, "Why isn't Harvard saying that almost 31 percent of their students are from FOREIGN LANDS, and yet those countries, some not at all friendly to the United States, pay NOTHING toward their student's education, nor do they ever intend to." Trump Emphasized, "Nobody told us that!"
In addition to demanding this information, Trump urged Harvard to halt any future federal funding requests.
The controversy began when the Department of Homeland Security announced on Thursday that it would revoke Harvard’s certification under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. This action would bar the university from admitting new international students, forcing current foreign students either to transfer to other institutions or risk losing their legal status.
Harvard responded swiftly by filing a lawsuit against the government. On Friday, a federal judge in Massachusetts issued a temporary restraining order, blocking enforcement of the ban until a full legal hearing can take place.
