Putin’s aircraft gets caught in Ukrainian drone attack

(MENAFN)
Russian President Vladimir Putin’s helicopter was caught in the middle of a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack during his recent visit to the Kursk Region, according to a senior military official. Yury Dashkin, a commander of an air defense division, shared the details in an interview aired on Russia 1 on Sunday.

Putin visited the region on Tuesday for the first time since Russian forces regained full control over it in April. During the visit, he met with regional governor Aleksandr Khinshtein and local officials, as well as volunteers assisting civilians affected by prior Ukrainian operations.

Commander Dashkin stated that while Putin was in the air, Ukrainian forces launched an “unprecedented” UAV offensive on the area. Russian air defenses reportedly intercepted 46 fixed-wing drones during the assault.

“The intensity of the attacks significantly increased while the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s aircraft was in Kursk’s airspace,” Dashkin noted. He said air defense teams had to manage simultaneous drone interceptions while also ensuring the president’s helicopter remained secure. “The task was accomplished,” he added, confirming that all enemy drones were destroyed.

Ukraine has escalated drone attacks across Russian territory over the past week. Russia’s Foreign Ministry reported that between Tuesday and Friday, 764 drones were intercepted, with hundreds more destroyed over the weekend, according to the Defense Ministry.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov blamed Western countries — specifically the UK, France, Germany, and the EU leadership — for encouraging Kiev’s continued use of UAVs, accusing them of prolonging the conflict.

Additionally, Russia’s Foreign Ministry suggested that the intensified drone strikes might be an attempt to sabotage peace negotiations between Moscow and Kiev, which are reportedly being mediated by the United States. Nonetheless, the ministry reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to pursuing a peaceful resolution through dialogue.
