Ukrainian assault demolishes Russian church dome
According to Milyaev’s statement on Telegram, the drone set the cathedral’s central spire ablaze, completely destroying it. Nearby homes also suffered damage from the blast, but no injuries were reported. Social media footage showed the Orthodox cathedral engulfed in flames, with debris falling onto surrounding rooftops.
The strike also damaged residential buildings and farm structures elsewhere in the region. Russian military forces claimed that 16 drones were intercepted over Tula, with a total of 110 drones shot down across the country during the coordinated attack.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that nearly 900 Ukrainian UAVs have been intercepted since Tuesday, describing the wave of attacks as a targeted campaign against civilian infrastructure.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attacks as terrorist actions by what it called Ukraine’s “party of war,” aimed at derailing recent peace efforts. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov blamed Western nations—including the UK, France, Germany, and the EU leadership—for supporting Ukraine’s drone operations and obstructing the peace process.
Direct talks between Russia and Ukraine resumed in Türkiye this month, the first in three years. While no formal agreement has yet been reached, both sides exchanged draft proposals for a ceasefire and completed a record-setting prisoner swap of 1,000 individuals from each side.
