Musk declares ‘back to 24/7’ work

(MENAFN) Elon Musk has announced he is returning to full-time focus on his business endeavors, reaffirming an earlier decision to step away from political involvement and his role in President Donald Trump’s administration.

The billionaire entrepreneur, who leads Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X, said he is once again devoting himself entirely to his companies. “Back to spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms,” Musk posted on X over the weekend. He noted that his immediate priorities include major developments at Tesla, the artificial intelligence company xAI, and an upcoming Starship launch.

Musk’s statement followed a major two-hour outage on X, during which users were unable to log in or access content. Downdetector logged over 25,800 complaints at the peak of the disruption. Musk acknowledged the failure, stating that operational upgrades are needed and that existing redundancy systems did not function as intended.

Previously appointed by Trump to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), Musk recently began scaling back his involvement in the role. The department was formed in January to reduce federal spending, but Musk said he now needs to concentrate on critical business operations.

At the Qatar Economic Forum earlier this week, Musk also revealed plans to cut back on political donations. After reportedly contributing over $250 million to Trump’s campaign, he said he now believes he has "done enough" and will significantly reduce future spending in this area.

This change in direction comes amid public dissatisfaction with Musk’s political performance. A recent ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll found that 57% of Americans disapprove of his leadership at DOGE, while just 35% view it positively.

Musk’s term as a special government employee is expected to end later this month. Vice President J.D. Vance has indicated that even after his formal departure, Musk will remain a valued “friend and adviser” to the administration. The DOGE agency itself is slated to continue operating until July 2026.
