Premier Wong Reveals New Cabinet After Election Victory
The newly formed Cabinet features three coordinating ministers, with Gan Kim Yong serving as the sole deputy prime minister.
It consists of 15 full ministers alongside two acting ministers based in the Prime Minister’s Office, overseeing a total of 16 ministries.
As Singapore’s fourth prime minister, Wong continues to hold the finance portfolio.
Additionally, he appointed nine fresh leaders, selecting them from backbenchers — members who are neither ministers, ministers of State, nor parliamentary secretaries — as well as first-term legislators, a group he described as “one of the highest in recent history.”
Wong expressed confidence in his team, stating he has “a solid team behind” him to support his leadership.
This Cabinet is significant as it represents the first complete team assembled under Wong’s leadership, following his succession from former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the architect of modern Singapore, in a carefully managed power transition earlier this May.
The PAP secured its uninterrupted six-decade governance by winning 87 of 97 parliamentary seats, garnering 65.57 percent of the popular vote, and achieving its 14th consecutive election victory on May 3.
