South African parliament pronounces Africa Day
Africa Day is celebrated yearly on the 25th of May to commemorate the accomplishments of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the Forerunner of the African Union (AU), from its formation on 1963 of 25th of May.
The AU's subject matter for Africa Day for this year is "Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century," which urge member states to create strong school systems to facilitate access to all-embracing, permanent, quality and appropriate education in Africa.
The South African parliament had requested in a released announcement on Saturday that "all Africans, governments of the world, and multilateral institutions to use this day to reflect on and pledge their commitment to achieving the goal of a conflict-free continent."
