Officer Says Putin’s Helicopter Was Caught During Drone Attack
The disclosure came from Yury Dashkin, a senior officer in an air defense unit, who shared the details during a televised interview.
President Putin made the journey to the Kursk Region on Tuesday, marking his first appearance there since the area was completely reclaimed from Ukrainian forces in April.
During the visit, he conferred with regional leader Aleksandr Khinshtein, along with local government officials and volunteers supporting those impacted by the previously thwarted Ukrainian incursion, as confirmed by the Kremlin.
Speaking to a news agency on Sunday, Commander Dashkin recounted how Putin’s helicopter became “in the epicenter of an operation to repel a massive drone attack by the enemy” while flying over the region.
According to Dashkin, the Ukrainian military carried out an “unprecedented” drone raid during the president’s presence, prompting a swift response from Russian air defenses that reportedly downed 46 approaching fixed-wing UAVs.
Dashkin highlighted the escalation in drone activity during the president’s flight, stating, “I would like to stress the fact that the intensity of the attacks during the flight of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief’s aircraft over the territory of Kursk Region increased significantly.”
He explained that air defense forces had to perform dual duties—engaging aerial threats while ensuring the protection of the president’s aircraft.
According to him, the mission was successfully completed, and all hostile drones were neutralized.
