Tunisia Intensifies Drug Crackdown as President Pledges Zero Tolerance
During a significant meeting in Tunis with Interior Minister Khaled Nouri and Secretary of State for National Security Sofiene Bessadok, Saied stressed that any dangers to Tunisia’s security inevitably put the well-being of society at large at risk. He highlighted the direct link between threats to national security and the overall safety of the community.
The government has recently escalated its anti-narcotics initiatives. Coordinated operations across the country have led to the apprehension of several hundred individuals suspected of involvement in the illegal drug trade.
According to a media outlet, customs officials have, since the start of 2025, confiscated over 122,500 pills containing illicit substances, more than 113 kilograms of cannabis, and 13 kilograms of cocaine.
Chokri Al-Jabri, the spokesperson for the General Directorate of Customs, outlined multiple successful drug seizures at Tunisia’s air, land, and maritime entry points, underscoring the scale and urgency of ongoing anti-smuggling efforts.
