Africa Strengthens Ties with Russia
Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, who leads Ghana’s parliamentary Energy Committee, shared these views during a speech at the inauguration of the Russia-Africa Humanitarian Cooperation Exhibition held at the State Duma in Moscow.
This event, organized to celebrate Africa Day—which commemorates the establishment of the Organization of African Unity on May 25—showcased the achievements resulting from collaboration between Russia and African nations across multiple fields.
“I am sincerely convinced that Africa will make a significant contribution to the future development of humanity in this century, and its people will be glad to walk the path of sustainable development side by side with the multinational people of Russia,” the parliamentarian declared.
Bedzrah was part of an eight-member delegation from Ghana’s National Assembly that arrived in Moscow on May 18 to participate in the Russia-Africa Humanitarian Day festivities held the following Thursday.
Throughout the week-long visit, the delegation engaged in talks with their counterparts in the State Duma, addressing a variety of bilateral topics.
Reflecting on history, Bedzrah recalled the Soviet Union’s support for Africa’s liberation struggles, starting with Ghana’s independence from British colonial rule in 1957.
He also praised Russia’s ongoing involvement in advancing Africa through initiatives in education, scientific research, agriculture, and technology.
