Catastrophic Fuel Tanker Crash in Zimbabwe Kills Twelve
According to Zimbabwean Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi, the petrol tanker—towed by two trailers—collided with a 2-ton truck traveling in the opposite direction before crashing head-on into a van carrying 12 passengers, also moving against the tanker’s route.
Nyathi explained that the tanker, en route from Harare, dragged the van several meters before overturning and landing atop it, trapping the passengers inside. He did not release the names of the victims.
He assured the public that further information about the incident would be made available as investigations continue.
Fatal road crashes are a common occurrence in Zimbabwe. Police frequently cite reckless driving behaviors such as speeding and ignoring traffic rules, alongside vehicle malfunctions, as key factors behind many of these tragedies.
