Car rams into masses at Liverpool football celebrations

(MENAFN) A car drove into a large crowd of Liverpool FC fans during Premier League victory celebrations in the city center, Merseyside Police confirmed. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Monday, and authorities have arrested a 53-year-old white British man in connection with the event.

While it's still unclear how many people were injured or if there were any fatalities, police confirmed that the vehicle involved stopped at the scene and the suspect was detained. Investigators are urging the public not to speculate while they conduct a thorough inquiry into the circumstances.

Footage shared on social media shows a black car moving through a dense crowd of fans. In one video, people can be seen attacking the car, with several windows smashed. Another clip appears to capture the moments before the incident, showing a fan grabbing the driver’s door just before the car suddenly accelerated into the crowd. Others in the crowd were seen throwing objects at the vehicle.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the scenes "appalling" and expressed sympathy for those affected. He also commended emergency services for their rapid response.

The collision occurred amid a large public celebration, as thousands of fans flooded the streets to mark Liverpool FC’s recent Premier League title win.
