Musk Blasts Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill
In a comprehensive interview with a media outlet, Musk voiced serious worries about the bill’s financial impact and its effects on the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
"I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing," Musk told the media outlet.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act—its official title—extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts, imposes stricter Medicaid work requirements, boosts border security funding, and cuts clean energy tax incentives.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates the legislation would balloon the federal deficit by $3.8 trillion through 2034.
"I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful," Musk added. "But I don't know if it can be both. My personal opinion."
While the Senate vote is still pending, Musk’s outspoken critique signals an uncommon break from Trump’s policy agenda.
Though Musk has stepped back from his hands-on role at DOGE, he remains CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, and X. He previously spearheaded agency-wide cost reductions, triggering legal disputes and bipartisan pushback.
