Russia criticizes British Premier

(MENAFN)
The Russian Embassy in the UK has criticized Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s recent statements and threats of sanctions, accusing Britain of actively trying to derail efforts to peacefully resolve the Ukraine conflict.

The condemnation came after Starmer, along with leaders from France, Germany, and Poland, issued an ultimatum in Kiev demanding that Russia agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire by Monday. As of Friday’s direct talks between Russia and Ukraine, no ceasefire had been reached.

Speaking at a security conference in Albania, Starmer stated that if Russia refused to negotiate, President Vladimir Putin would have to "pay the price." He described Russia’s stance in the talks as “clearly unacceptable.”

The Russian Embassy responded strongly, stating that the UK is not part of the negotiating process and has no authority to declare Russia’s position unacceptable. The embassy called Starmer’s remarks puzzling and emphasized that Russia is negotiating with Ukraine—not with London.

The statement further accused the UK of being a key instigator of Western escalation by supplying offensive weapons, including long-range missiles, to Ukraine. Britain, it said, was the first to provide Kiev with domestically produced long-range cruise missiles, which have been used in attacks inside Russian territory.

The embassy argued that the UK’s ultimatums and rhetoric serve only to complicate or obstruct the peace process. It also accused the British government of undermining past negotiations, claiming that former Prime Minister Boris Johnson played a significant role in sabotaging the 2022 peace talks by convincing Ukraine to abandon the process.
