‘Macron’ wax figure stolen in Paris
(MENAFN) Greenpeace activists staged a protest in Paris by stealing a wax statue of French President Emmanuel Macron from the Grevin Museum and placing it outside the Russian Embassy. The stunt was meant to criticize what they described as Macron’s inconsistent support for Ukraine.
Despite France being a major backer of Kiev since the outbreak of hostilities with Russia in 2022—and Macron publicly advocating for potential troop deployment—Greenpeace France’s director, Jean-Francois Julliard, accused the president of “playing a double game.” The group specifically pointed to France’s continued imports of Russian liquefied natural gas and fertilizers.
According to AFP sources, three Greenpeace members disguised themselves as tourists and later as museum staff on Monday. They removed the €40,000 wax figure of Macron and transported it across the city, documenting the act on video. The statue was placed near the Russian Embassy alongside banners criticizing France’s economic ties with Moscow.
Greenpeace claimed the statue was only “borrowed” and would be returned. The Paris prosecutor’s office confirmed that an investigation has been launched into the theft, though no arrests have been made. The Grevin Museum has not issued a public statement.
In 2023, Russia labeled Greenpeace International an “undesirable organization,” accusing it of promoting political agendas and interfering in domestic affairs with the intention of harming the economy.
