Ukraine Reports Attack on Kerch Bridge

(MENAFN) The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) announced on Tuesday that it executed an underwater mission targeting the Kerch Bridge, the structure linking mainland Russia with the Crimean Peninsula.

Based on the intelligence agency, the operation had been in preparation for several months prior to its execution.

In a Telegram statement, Ukraine's intelligence detailed that "SBU agents mined the pillars of this illegal object."

The declaration further stated, "And today, without any civilian casualties, at 4.44 am, the first explosive device was activated."

The mission reportedly inflicted significant damage on the underwater supports at their base.

Ukraine's intelligence emphasized that approximately 1,100 kg of explosives in TNT equivalent were employed during the operation.

They asserted that the inflicted harm to the bridge was so extensive that it "cannot be repaired."

The operation was directly overseen by the head of the SBU, Lt. Gen. Vasyl Malysh, who managed the planning and coordination personally, according to the statement.

Russia has not yet responded to Ukraine’s announcement.

Nevertheless, a Telegram channel that tracks real-time updates near the bridge reported a temporary suspension of vehicle traffic across the Crimean Bridge.

The notification stated, "Vehicle movement across the Crimean Bridge has been temporarily blocked."

Drivers on the bridge and within the inspection zones have been urged to remain calm and comply with directions from transport security personnel.
