EU, US Trade Talks Show Progress
Sefcovic met with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on the sidelines of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)'s Ministerial Council Meeting held in Paris.
"Had a productive and constructive discussion with US Trade Representative Ambassador Greer on the margins of the OECD Trade Ministerial," Sefcovic posted on X.
He further noted, "We're advancing in the right direction at pace - and staying in close contact to maintain the momentum."
This encounter occurred shortly after President Trump escalated trade tensions by doubling the tariff on steel products entering the US to 50 percent.
Previously, Trump had threatened to apply a direct 50 percent tariff on the European Union starting June 1, citing stalled negotiations as of May 23.
Following talks with EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, the US president postponed the tariff implementation to July 9.
Last week, Trump commended the EU for expediting trade discussions, calling it a "positive event."
"I have just been informed that the EU has called to quickly establish meeting dates," Trump shared on social media, conveying his approval.
