Iran Accuses Israel of Blocking US Nuclear Deal

(MENAFN) In his first public remarks following a sharp rise in tensions between Iran and Israel, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi claimed that Israel is actively working to obstruct Tehran’s progress toward a nuclear agreement with the United States.

Speaking on Friday, Araghchi suggested that the Jewish state is deliberately undermining diplomatic efforts.

A planned sixth round of negotiations between Tehran and Washington, originally set for June 15 in Oman, was scrapped after Israel launched aerial assaults on Iranian territory.

The Iranian leadership has described these strikes as a “declaration of war,” intensifying an already volatile situation.

In retaliation, Iran launched a series of ballistic missile salvos aimed at Israeli locations, including Tel Aviv, the country’s most populous city.

The exchange of military attacks continued overnight and into Sunday, with Israeli forces striking Iranian energy installations and sites it described as “related to the Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons project.”

In response, Tehran fired additional missiles at locations in Israel, including areas near Haifa and Tel Aviv.

According to reports, the attacks resulted in at least 10 fatalities and roughly 200 injuries.

On Saturday, Araghchi emphasized that Iranian leaders continue to uphold a “firm conviction not to possess a nuclear weapon.”

He also stressed that “those who are willing to deprive Iran of our right to possess the nuclear program for peaceful purposes, they have no right to do so,” reaffirming Iran’s stance on nuclear energy.

He further asserted that “this is a crystal-clear matter,” stating that “the Zionist entity [Israel] is not willing to see us reaching an agreement or a diplomatic solution with the US.”

His remarks reflect a broader narrative of distrust and confrontation as hostilities persist.
