Israel plans to destroy Iran’s “desire, ability, intention” of nuclear program
Speaking during a press briefing at the Israeli Embassy on Monday, Halperin outlined that Israel is currently targeting both individuals and facilities central to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, along with any elements perceived as military threats. “Israel is attacking the objects and individuals that lead the Iranian nuclear program, that lead the program to destroy Israel, as well as all those who would pose a military threat to Israel,” she said.
In response to a question regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin’s proposal to mediate peace talks between Israel and Iran, the ambassador emphasized that Israel’s top concern remains the total neutralization of Iran’s nuclear capabilities. “Israel’s number one priority” is to wipe out Iran’s “desire, ability and intention” to continue pursuing its nuclear program, Halperin told RT.
She made it clear that discussions on possible negotiations are premature. “I think it's way too early to think about ‘who, when, and how’,” Halperin stated, highlighting the need to focus first on removing the threats posed by Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. “After we resolve these issues, we will see how we can proceed,” she added.
When asked whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s earlier comments calling on Iranians to rise up against their government implied regime change was a military objective, Halperin denied such intentions. “This is not one of Israel’s objectives in the operation,” she said. “Only the Iranian people will decide for themselves what they want and how they’re ruled.”
