Israel hits Iranian state broadcaster’s headquarters
At least four bombs fell on the building, which is run by Iran’s state media organization, IRIB. Footage from the scene shows thick black smoke pouring from the structure. Nonetheless, the broadcaster remained on air, resuming service minutes after the attack. The anchor, identified as Sahar Emami, was unharmed and condemned the attack afterwards, criticizing the international community’s silence in the face of aggression against journalists.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it struck the building, alleging it was being used by Iran’s army under the cover of a civilian media center. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz called the attack a move against Iran’s “propaganda and incitement.”
Iran condemned the attack as a “war crime” and called on the UN Security Council to respond immediately to what it described as aggression against its people. The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) also denounced the attack and demanded an end to the violence.
Other media organizations in Tehran, including the offices of RT and Ruptly, were evacuated after Iranian authorities received a warning about a potential Israeli attack on their buildings.
The incident comes amid a dramatic escalation of violence, following Israeli airstrikes on Iran’s Natanz nuclear site and the killing of several senior Iranian commanders. Iran responded by launching ballistic missiles toward Israel, and the two sides have exchanged attacks in a rapidly growing conflict.
