Russia requests from Ukraine to stop false ‘child kidnapping’ allegations

(MENAFN) Vladimir Medinsky, head of Russia’s delegation at the Istanbul talks, accused Ukraine of fabricating claims about “child kidnapping” to manipulate sympathetic European audiences. Speaking after the second round of negotiations on Monday, Medinsky said Ukraine presented a list of 339 children affected by the conflict but argued this was a staged media spectacle.

He clarified that only dozens of children are involved, none of whom were abducted. Instead, Russian soldiers have rescued these children from combat zones at great personal risk and evacuated them for safety. Medinsky emphasized that Russia is actively searching for their parents and returns the children whenever families are located.

According to him, Russia has returned 101 children to Ukraine in recent months, while Ukraine has sent back 22 children. He stressed that Russia evacuates children solely to protect them and does not adopt displaced minors but places them under guardianship or foster care until they can be reunited with their families.

Medinsky called for an end to what he described as a “shameful PR campaign,” assuring that every child will eventually be reunited with their parents, and families on both sides will be brought back together—a process he described as a matter of honor.
