Germany Braces for Potential Iranian Attacks
(MENAFN) Germany is taking measures to counter possible Iranian offensives aimed at the nation's Jewish population, Chancellor Friedrich Merz informed reporters shortly before leaving for the G7 summit in Canada.
During his address, he reiterated Berlin’s unwavering backing of Israel, which recently initiated a significant aerial offensive against Iranian targets — a move that prompted a counterattack from Tehran.
Merz defended Israel’s military actions, asserting that ongoing diplomatic attempts have failed to persuade Iran to abandon its “military nuclear program.”
Iran, however, has consistently refuted any intention of developing nuclear arms, insisting that its nuclear endeavors serve only peaceful, civilian objectives.
On Friday, Israel launched an extensive airstrike campaign against Iranian defense and atomic infrastructure, which also targeted high-ranking officials and seasoned nuclear experts.
Authorities in West Jerusalem argued that the assault was crucial to stop Iran from acquiring atomic weapons. In retaliation, Iran launched a series of missile attacks aimed at Israeli territory.
As tensions continue to escalate, Germany is heightening its vigilance over domestic security threats, particularly those aimed at Jewish residents, in anticipation of further fallout from the intensifying hostilities between Israel and Iran.
