Xi Strengthens Ties with Central Asia

(MENAFN) Chinese leader Xi Jinping convened with leaders from Central Asia on Tuesday in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, where the second Central Asia-China Summit is currently underway.

During his visit, Xi held separate discussions with key figures from the region, including Kyrgyzstan’s President Sadyr Japarov, Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon, Turkmenistan’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as reported by a Chinese government-affiliated outlet.

The Chinese head of state encouraged both Beijing and Bishkek to move forward with the development of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project.

Xi also urged Kyrgyzstan to "jointly oppose unilateralism, safeguard international economic and trade order for more just, equitable global governance system."

In return, Japarov emphasized his country’s backing for three key international strategies proposed by Xi.

While speaking with Rahmon, Xi reaffirmed his endorsement of Tajikistan’s efforts to maintain its "national independence, sovereignty, security."

The day before, Xi also sat down with Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During their meeting, the two leaders reached a consensus on enhancing mutual collaboration in various areas including energy, space technology, digital transformation, farming, travel, healthcare, mass communication, and scientific research.
