Israel “systematically targeted and destroyed” Gaza’s health-care infrastructure
Haj-Hassan revealed that at least 1,500 health care workers have been killed in Gaza so far, including several of her former medical students. She described these workers as some of the most dedicated she has ever known.
Committee Chair Emily Thornberry urged witnesses to share detailed information for the public, noting that the conflict with Iran has overshadowed coverage of Gaza. Haj-Hassan agreed, stating that the Israel-Iran tensions have diverted global attention away from the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
She also highlighted that international journalists and independent investigators have been barred from entering Gaza for the past 20 months, limiting transparency about the humanitarian situation.
