Israel-Iran Ceasefire Takes Hold After Intense Iranian Missile Strikes
(MENAFN) A ceasefire between Israel and Iran officially took effect at 0400 GMT on Tuesday, following several hours of heightened violence in which Iran unleashed a series of missile assaults targeting Israeli soil.
The Israeli military confirmed that Iran launched a total of 11 missiles in six distinct waves over the course of the attack.
Israeli emergency services reported at least six fatalities and 15 injuries, some of which were critical, after a rocket struck a residential building in Beersheba, a city located in southern Israel.
Further explosions were also reported in Tel Aviv and central regions of the country, according to Israeli news outlets.
Iranian media also corroborated the ceasefire's implementation, noting that it came into effect after the final rounds of missile launches.
Earlier reports from Israeli broadcasting and military radio signaled the start of the ceasefire, though Israeli officials remained tight-lipped, refraining from formal commentary.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had reportedly ordered his ministers not to make public statements regarding the truce.
The ceasefire was initially announced by US President Donald Trump, who described the agreement as a phased halt to hostilities. Under the terms, Iran would first observe a ceasefire, followed by Israel’s cessation of operations 12 hours later. A complete cessation of hostilities would then be declared after 24 hours.
Israeli media sources indicated that Qatar played a key role in mediating the ceasefire agreement.
