Colombian Landslide Death Toll Rises
According to a declaration from the Antioquia governor’s office, additional remains were discovered in the Bello and Altos de Oriente districts of Medellin in the aftermath of the landslide.
The announcement confirmed that the death toll had reached 22, with eight people missing.
The report underlined that search and recovery operations were ongoing, involving 391 responders, with significant effort dedicated to locating victims buried beneath the earth.
The statement also indicated that many dwellings constructed on steep slopes were susceptible to landslides, and these buildings were considered hazard-prone.
Since March, persistent downpours have resulted in casualties and damage to property across multiple parts of Colombia.
