Former South Korean Leader Faces Interrogation

(MENAFN) Disgraced South Korean ex-president Yoon Suk Yeol was questioned on Saturday by a special prosecutor over insurrection allegations tied to his martial law declaration in December, as reported by local news sources.

Yoon presented himself at the Seoul High Prosecutors Office—located in southern Seoul, where he once worked as a prosecutor—to be interrogated about his imposition of martial law on Dec. 3, according to a news agency.

This questioning follows two weeks after a special investigation began.

His defense attorneys had asked for him to enter the premises discreetly instead of using the primary entrance, but this plea was rejected.

Prosecutors had previously noted that Yoon ignored three police summonses.

In April, South Korea’s constitutional court removed Yoon from office following his unsuccessful attempt to enforce martial law.

He was detained and formally charged with abuse of power and orchestrating an insurrection in January, becoming the nation's first sitting president to be jailed.

In March, Yoon was freed after a district court overturned his detention, permitting him to face trial without being held behind bars.
